1.   Keep the key message big and short

Make sure all your key messages are clearly visible by positioning them higher. This can be done by using raised walls or by placing an eye-catcher above 4m.

Trust in the power of repetition. To reinforce your brand, it is important to place your company logo in different areas of the booth. Limit the message to a few strong one-liners that are large and legible and will attract attention from a distance.

2.   Leave enough space in your images. The general rule of thumb for advertising is to have 40% empty space. This helps ensure that too much text overpowers your message. Also, don't place too many graphics and busy photos in your visuals. Your brand and message will no longer be visible. Remember, you only get one chance to make a first impression.

3.   Make sure the images have the right layout and resolution.

Always ask your stand builder for the delivery specifications for the layout of the images. This will prevent you from using images that are not of the right quality. Images must have the correct resolution and must be laid out in the correct manner. This will prevent your printed matter from being grainy or out of focus. The use of good images creates a strong brand image. This is important for building good relationships.

4.   Put the most important message in the right place

Every booth has areas that stand out visually more than others. So, place the most important message here, so it stands out first and best. For example, the back wall is the focal point of most small to medium-sized stands. This is where the most important elements, the message and the logo should be placed. Larger stands have more areas that are interesting and stand out. These central areas of the booth should contain the most crucial information about your brand.

5.   Choose the right colour

The colour of the booth is determined by several factors. Of course, you use a general house style, colour elements and logo, but you also have to take into account the desired behavior of your visitor. Colour psychology is complex, and people show different behavior with different colours. The colours and shades you choose for your display can help you stand out and promote your message. Cooler colours such as blue, green and white look professional but don't attract as much attention. Warmer colours such as red, orange and yellow are more attractive but can quickly become overpowering. In addition, not all colours are possible with standard carpet and it is important that the entire booth forms a visual whole.

6.   Stick to the plan

Come up with a theme and use it, as well as your brand and message, consistently in all parts of the booth. Be distinctive but recognisable through the background, your banners, the giveaways and brochures. Both in the run-up to the trade show and when following up all the leads after the trade show.

7.   Make it interactive

Attracting the attention of visitors can be done by integrating passive activities, such as watching a video screen. However, this will not be as effective as using interactive elements.

By adding interactive elements to the booth, visitors will stay longer at the booth, giving the account managers more time to engage with them. Devise a game where visitors can win a prize. Integrate touch screens or place an IPad where the visitor can request more information about the organisation or the product. Product demonstrations are also a good way to interact with the customer.

8.   Make sure there is enough room to move around in the booth

Leave enough space and do not place any bulky and unwieldy furniture in your stand. Keep the booth clean and inviting. A little extra space ensures that the customer is more likely to linger at the booth, so that the account manager can make contact.

9.   Plants create a relaxed atmosphere

Plants give the both a homely atmosphere and a natural look. Green attracts visitors and various studies have shown that plants and trees have a positive effect on people. Plants reduce stress and give energy. Plants make you stand out in the crowd, and it also looks cosy.

10. If possible: a pantry and good coffee

Storage space in the booth is very handy. This extra storage space ensures that the both remains neat and tidy. You can also place a kitchen block, which creates the possibility of serving cold and hot drinks.
